Great suggestion, since all three of our home systems are running either Vista or Win 7 64-bit. It appears that the configuration utility may have scrambled the network IDs of the two original remote devices. First, and possibly VERY important if you already have a HomePlug network.the supplied utility will not work on ANY 64-bot OS and TrendNet apparently has no intention of updating it. However, after I followed TrendNet's directions to ensure3 that all devices shared the same network ID, the two remote devices disappeared; only the local device connected to the router remained visible.(4) I tried a hard reset on both remotes but they're still invisible to the utility.(5) I then unwrapped and connected the one 302E that hadn't yet been configured. I've sent another email to TrendNet Support but I've been putzing around with this on and off for almost 3 months and, if I can't get this resolved soon, everything is going back to Amazon. Fortunately, my company-supplied computer runs Win XP 32 - but it really didn't matter because I never got the network running properly and the configuration utility doesn't appear to do much. However, there is STILL no internet access through the 302E.(6) And I STILL can't get the utility to recognize the two original 302Es; they're nothing but poorly designed paperweights.So, what's going on here.
No such luck.In addition, while it looks like the local 302E is connected to and recognized by the router and the one functioning remote 302E is communicating with the local 302E, neither the remote or the local device is able to actually access the Internet. I was told when I contacted TrendNet support to use a computer running a 32-bit OS. You'd THINK that a hard reset would return the 302Es to their original default ID (TRENDNet), allowing them to be rediscovered by the utility. Here's the story.(1) Connected the first 302E to a barely accessible AC outlet and ran a Cat 5 from it to a free port on my FiOS wireless/wired router.(2) Plugged in and connected 2 local devices, one to a desktop and one to a Blu-ray player, both AC outlets are routed through the same circuit panel.(3) I then started the TrendNet utility from my office laptop and was able to view all three devices from the utility. It appeared in the configuration utility and now the local and 1 remote device appear to be communicating. (BTW, I agree with several of the reviewers that the configuration utility should not be necessary unless you need to change the default Network ID to match an existing HomePlug network).I've checked router settings (no problem, it shows the Local 302E connected to and communicating with LAN Port 2) and even disabled my firewall during configuration attempts with no success. Thank you, Amazon, for your liberal return policy and shame on TrendNet for lousy setup and virtually non-existent diagnostic instructions (and less then helpful tech support so far).
Got for my son's X-box live connection but also worked on my PC. Works great in my apartment you dont have to run the software just "plug and play". Since your "hardwired" to your router you dont have to worry people hacking into your network.
I plugged it in and it just worked. The speed is fine. My network upstairs was joined to my network downstairs. No configuration needed. It's not flaky like my wireless bridge was. I give it three thumbs up.
I started to question my service or electrical lines so I decided to try a different manufacturer. I exchanged the unit two times (tried 3 units) and each one had the same issue.
I have fios service and over 15 mbps service. While the trendnet product seemed easy to install, it continued to drop the connection between the remote and the local unit.
I purchased this product for use with a video phone. Each time I had to re-connect it to the computer to re-program the module.
After spending over an hour with technical support it worked (Tech support was pretty good).for a few days. Then again, the remote unit would drop connection.
That's 3 units I tried. I'm currently using an Actiontec adapter and it seems to be working just fine for over a week now (as of 12/2/09).
This product works as advertised. I initially tried to use it without installing the software and was disappointed when I got very poor video quality from netflix and youtube (I was using an LG BD370). I read the manual, followed the directions and installed the included software and presto.-- very smooth HD streaming from Netflix. I am very happy with this product-- I was getting 95-105 Mps consistently.
